Preventive care
Most of what kills people early — cancers, heart disease, diabetes — is far more survivable when caught at a screening than at symptoms. Colorectal and breast screening trials show 15–30% disease-specific mortality reductions; regular dental care tracks with cardiovascular health (gum disease and heart disease travel together).
The research
- Zauber et al., NEJM 2012 — colonoscopy polypectomy, ~53% lower CRC mortality
- Independent UK Panel, Lancet 2012 — breast screening ~20% mortality reduction
- Sanz et al., J Clin Periodontol 2020 — periodontitis–CVD consensus
