The 600,000-drinker Lancet pooled analysis found ~4–5 fewer years of life at 40 for people drinking over ~18 drinks a week, with risk rising smoothly above ~7/week. The old idea that moderate drinking protects the heart hasn’t survived better methods; current evidence points to "the less, the better." Binge patterns are worse than the same volume spread out.
